Hi All

Thought that I would start a new thread for this one.

I finally got around my other issues by getting a copy of DB2 Personal v8.1 and installing it on my PC which has XP Home edition SP2 installed on it.

Naturally that couldn't just be it...

Now I always get an error in the Control Center when I try to create a database. Once I click "Finish" in the wizard process the Control Center shuts down and I get an XP error:

Couple of thoughts occur...... are you switching users, or do you have the correct authority to create the database?

Only other thing that I can think of is to check the date on the AWT.DLL and ensure that you've got the most up to date version of it. It's possible that your javaw program needs a new version of the DLL that is compatible with SP2.

Thanks Mark, you have been most helpful in this. I really appreciate your efforts.

I installed DB2 under my username. During the installation process I used the username 'db2admin' with password of course. This is a user that I have created with administrative rights on the PC. Should I perhaps have used my username and password during the installation?

Where would one find an updated version of awt.exe?

Thanks again!!!

Oh... I have administrative rights as well...

The awt.dll (Abstract Windows Toolkit Dynamic Link Library if you're really interested!) is mainly concerned with the GUI part of windows. This ties in with the javaw.exe reference which I think is the graphical side of things, whereas java.exe does text command line stuff. Part of the update to windows in SP2 tightened up some of windoze screen handling and stopped the potential for hackers etc to utilise this 'bug'. This has caused a number of applications, particularly games, to have to release new drivers which handle the GUI API bit in a more secure fashion.

If this is something to do with the error that you are getting (long shot, but possible) then I would be surprised if an organisation like Sun are not aware of it, and haven't fixed it. I would try looking at their website, and here is a good place to start:
Sorry I can't be of more help to actually pinpoint what's going on.

Thanks for the link Marc...

Here's what ended up happening...

I D/L'd and installed FixPak 7a for Win XP PE 32bit version.

All is right with the world... or so it seems right now...
