How can you turn on the message waiting indicator on an station for messages that may be in a different mailboxs?

If the station has available buttons you can use the
aut-msg-wt command and put the ext of the mailbox you want after it. We have a few phones set up that way where if a call goes into a vm box a person can cover the mailbox and check the VM when they see the indicator lamp is lit.

Natoli,

We have 6408D+ sets and don't have available buttons to use. Really I just need to light the MWI on station 1 from mailbox 2. Any thoughts?

With one message light representing multiple extensions, how will you know which mailbox to check? Is your voicemail Octel, Intuity or another?

Hmm, Not sure. I was assuming that station one required it's own vm lamp as well. If so is there a button you can move onto the soft button part of your phone? Not an elegant solution....

Thanks everyone for your input. I think that I have found my solution (funny how asking a question can sometimes help you answer your own question). On the station form for ext. 1, I changed the "Message Lamp Ext" field to "2". This seems to work just fine when I tested.

Hi Kmerick

Not sure I understand , I know if you change the message waiting lamp to show the number of the second ext you want to view, but what happens when you are left a message on the first phone, does the message waiting lamp appear for your extension as well ?

Linesclan,

No, the first extension doesn't. This is a problem, and I am looking at how to handle this. Any suggestions?

how about you give each person that uses that phone an agent ID with their own skill set, and have them log into the phone, when they do that the MWI will follow the agent login?

Or PSA would work to. When the first user is there they enter their extension, then when the second user sits down, they would just enter their extension, and vice versa. The MWI will follow that as well...

TTI- requires too many buttons to press I think.

Just a few ideas---

Hi 98Converter, I don't think that the MWI will follow the agent ID as the MWI is programmed on the phone (not on the agent ID). If it does, please let me know how you did it.

I have no experience with PSA but I do know that the button aut-msg-wt (see Natoli's reply) will work. But indeed you will have to offer a button. Maybe you can move a button to the softkey buttons ??

Thanks everyone for your comments and help. This is what I have been trying to accomplish:

I have a user at ext 123 that I needed to give callers options when they were sent to coverage. I changed their vm box in Audix to auto-attendant and had this person change there greeting with the options. Then, I created another vm box ext 456 and had her to create her voicemail greeting. Back on the Definity station form, I changed ext 123 the message lamp ext= 456. At this point, it would work but no message waiting light on ext 123 for mailbox 456. So, when I created a dummy station x456 on the Definity the MWI started working.

Now, I know to not allow a message to be left you should create a bulletin board ext on the Intuity, but only the auto-attendant gives the caller options. I still don't know how to deal with someone in our company forwarding messages to her ext 123 when now her actual mailbox is 456. This lady may have a message and not be aware of it.

Again, my thanks to all of you that make this a great forum!
