I was given a quote to upgrade my switch from R4 to R10 and to upgrade a dual processor and was told that it would cost $25,900. Does that sound right.

We came in close to $20K just adding duplication without an upgrade. $26K for both sounds close enough to be correct. You should always pick the quote apart because there's often unnecessary equipment not asked for and not needed which the AE or DS feels compelled to add onto the project just to make a buck. -CL

An upgrade from V4 to V10 is almost a complete replacement
of all the processor and related boards and software.
The amount sounds right,depending
here you can find some (pricing)information regarding the
new Multivantage (R11) platform

That amount sounds right, Tell me if I am incorrect but it requires a processor upgrade from anything below V7. Thats where the bulk of your cost is coming in.

Thanks for all the input. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't getting ripped off by my rep.

You might want to check the items and see if they replaced your common control carriers or just replaced the common control packs.

Let me know what the J number is on the back of the carrier and I'll let you know if it can be reused or needs to be replaced. The J number is on the back of the cabinet, left hand side in a cabinet label, and has a number like J58890M or J58890L. The carriers usually have differnet numbers so check both of you common control carriers and let me know.

At version 4 switch the carriers are typically reusable. A "sandwich" board TN2400/2401 is required to accomidate new back plane functions. Hope this helps

Thanks
Chris

Tunter,

Your cost is roughly appropriate. However, R11 is due out 6 MAY, and it will split the product line into two going forward products. First, the traditional processor which has an unefined future (5-10 years) before you'll have to "migrate" (vs. upgrade) the LINUX processor.

Our quotes for migrating from R8 to R11 w/Linux have been more that twice the cost of staying with the traditional processor.

Also, UPP does not apply to "migrating" to the new Linux processor. That's why they are calling it a migration and not an upgrade.

Just something to consider.

Thanks, WHCARon

You may also want to check with an Avaya business partner if you already haven't done so. Someone like NACR, Datavox, etc. They may be able to come down on the overall quote.
