Greetings.

I am currently at G3si w/ load R009i.05.0.122.2. I have a maintenance contract including software maint. I have been advised by Avaya that to upgrade to R10 would cost $5000 even with the support. I believe we spend about $2k on the previous upgrade (though memory is fading)

Does this sound right to you?

Thanks

I heard release 11 will be out in June and version 12 will be out by December. I am waiting for release 11 to upgrade

Seems there is not even going to be a R11,
It is still called R11 as a development name for what i heard, but there is going to be a new generic/platform called Multivantage.
Multivantage takes the processor out of the box and does full IP using the new S8700 modules, and much more nice stuff.
There is not much info around yet, but they did some press releases:

Here's what I got from our Rep:

"NO, you don't want to skip R10 before going to R11 especially since you are paying for R10 through UPP. UPP will be discontinued after R10, the new maintenance offering is MPP on the R11. R11 is expected in North America sometime in May."

Actually according to my rep with the Multivantage release you don't have to upgrade to the new S8700 Processors. However doing so will greatly increase capacity. The new line comes with a lot of new features, but I think I'm going to upgrade to release 10 and stay a little while until they get the bugs worked out. Even so, they're headed toward a total rackmount solution. Sounds pretty expensive!

To answer the original question, $5K sounds high. I would take a look at a breakdown quote for the upgrade and make sure that your AE isn't putting fluff in there. I know they have a bad habit of throwing in a couple dozen phones, etc. Just question every line item and you should be able to bring the cost down. By doing so, we dropped the price quite a bit.

Oh, yeah, the original question. Yes, after clarifying things w/our Rep, the price ended up being a pinch over $1500 which is about what I anticipated.

Thanks to all.
