G3R V10 TCP/IP, SNMP, & General Questions...

We are running G3Rv8.4 right now and will be jumping to v10 in a couple of months.

Questions:

1.) Any known issues with 10?

2.) I know v10 will give me tcp/ip connectivity to the switch for admin. How many logins can I have going at a time? (As much as bandwidth will allow?).

3.) Since DNA is dead now does v10 give you a SNMP daemon? If so what kind of things can be monitored via the MIB?

4.) We are running DSA 1.5 now does the newer version of DSA give you any more advanced features? I'm looking for a gui to give me some kind of detailed reporting. Kind of like the old Monitor One system... (I could use CMS but that sounds like a hassel).

I appreciate any input!

Thanks,

Ray

2) You can have up to 4 simultaneous logins depending on the CLAN inteface you have 10-Base-T (TN799C) or both 10-Base-T and 100-Base-T (TN799DP)

Please let me know if the information that was provided is helpfull.

We have the TN799C 10BT. Surely you can have more than 4 people in at time. Is this just a recommendation rather than a restriction? Can you still use Datamods to connect as well?

Thanks,

Ray

Hi Rcotten,

2) Here's what the manual for R10 says:

In order to increase the efficiency of administration and maintenance functions, the
DEFINITY ECS switch accommodates multiple concurrent administration and
maintenance user sessions. Three or more devices (management terminals or operation
support systems) can be connected to the switch to perform administration and/or
maintenance tasks simultaneously. DEFINITY ECS supports eight concurrent
administration and maintenance users — five can perform concurrent administration, and
three can perform concurrent maintenance. The eight concurrent sessions can be in any
combination of local and remote connections.

4) DSA - the current version is 1.10 (there's been no 1.6, 1.7 or 1.9 and 1.8 was only for foreign language support). R10 gives a few more features but i don't really understand what your looking for, perhaps if you could elaborate.

1) I don't know of any switches, at least within EMEA, that have gone to R10 yet and i don't think you'll find many issues coming out before it's been in the field a while.

Sorry I couldn't tell you on SNMP Daemons but I hope this helps,

Chris
