Good Afternoon everyone,
I'm in a pickle right now. Last few days our phone system is not picking up dhcp. the phone says "vlan =300" we did an network upgrade over the weekend.

We have an Avaya ip office manager 8.1. we have gone from 192.168 to 10.128. our phone supplier no longer wants to be involved (as it no longer supported) so i'm taking over the system,

we have a switch but we don't know who installed it and i cant get a console cable on the switch as we don't know the password to access it. i've connected a laptop directly onto the switch and can see it's picking up an ip address and subnet.

we have two connections lan1 which is going into our new switch with vlan 100 enabled.
Wan1 is going directly into the switch,

i've changed the lan1 to our new network ip : 10.128 and made sure dhcp is disabled. i havent touched voip on lan1

Lan2 the ip is different 10.253 but dhcp mode is enabled and pool is set to 100. start address is 101.

is there anything i need to do to get this working?

You can edit the 46xxsettings.txt (downloaded by all IP Phones at start-up) changing the VLANTEST parameter, see below the standard settings.

## VLANTEST specifies the number of seconds that DHCP will be attempted with a
## non-zero VLAN ID before switching to a VLAN ID of zero (if the value of L2Q is 1)
## or to untagged frames (if the value of L2Q is 0).
## Valid values are 0 through 999; the default value is 60.
## A value of zero means that DHCP will try with a non-zero VLAN ID forever.
## This parameter is supported by:
## J169/J179 H.323 R6.7 and later, J159 and J189 H.323 R6.8.5 and later
## J169/J179 SIP R1.5.0, J100 SIP R2.0.0.0 and later (only J169/J179), J139 SIP R3.0.0.0 and later, J159 SIP R4.0.3.0 and later, J189 SIP R4.0.6.1 and later - if L2QVLAN == 0, L2Q is treated as 2 (disabled)
## Avaya Vantage Devices SIP R1.0.0.0 and later. Note: L2Q==1 has the same behavior as L2Q==0.
## J129 SIP R1.0.0.0 and later
## H1xx SIP R1.0 and later. Note: L2Q==1 has the same behavior as L2Q==0.
## 96x1 H.323 R6.0 and later
## 96x1 SIP R6.0 and later. R7.1.0.0 and later, if L2QVLAN == 0, L2Q is treated as 2 (disabled).
## B189 H.323 R1.0 and later
## 96x0 H.323 R1.0 and later
## 96x0 SIP R1.0 and later

These are my settings how do i edit it and upload it back. sorry all new to this

The 46xxsettings you are mentioning is the AUTOGENERATED one and at 8.1 times it was not fully implemented yet, not sure you are using that

Go to the embedded file management and browse the system/primary folder, I suppose there is the REAL 46xxsettings file

If not, comeback here

found one here C:\Program Files (x86)\Avaya\IP Office\Manager

Ok i've also searched the embedded file management and looked in all the files it's nothing there for that txt file.

also i did notice our phones download HA1608UA1_3200.BIN

The file you found in C:\Program Files (x86)\Avaya\IP Office\Manager depends on the Manager release, which should exactly match with your IP Office, let's say it seems too short and many many parts are missing.
Open the config, if in "System" the "Phone File Server Type option" is set to "Memory Card" you will be sure that the 46xxsettings used by the phone is the autogenerated one, in this case:

Download the file and save it
Edit the header changing "## IPOFFICE/8.1(52) 10.128. AUTOGENERATED2 to ## IPOFFICE/8.1(52) 10.128. MODIFIED, to tell inform you next times it's not the standard one anymore
At the end of file add the new VLANTEST setings (you can try with 120 secs, or 0, as per description), like:
.....
IF $SIG_IN_USE SEQ 2 GOTO SETTINGSSIP96xx
GOTO END
# SETTINGSSIP96xx
SET TLSSRVRID 0
SET SUBSCRIBE_SECURITY 0
SET ENFORCE_SIPS_URI 0
SET VLANTEST 120
GOTO END
# END

Save the file and put it into the SD card system/primary with the Embedded File Management

The HA1608UA1_3200.BIN it's a phone firmware for IP1608

Ok here a short story - i'm the new IT guy previous IT guy retired left us with no information... so im learning this as i go.... so bare with me...

so i'm using ip office manager 9.1.12.0 build 212

our system is on 8.1 52. i got the software from this site.

i would be grateful if i can send you the file and you could edit it for me please in PM. sorry i would obviously pay you for your time.

So how are the phones getting dhcp address.
From your dhcp server
Or from the Ip office phone system DHCP.

Is the issue with the actual phones not getting dhcp address
Or the ip office phone system not getting an address.

If it’s a windows server look at this link below

Your server will need to be tell the phones how to get back to the ipo phone system

You need to set up a scope to enter this information which I’m sure has already been done.

Although I don’t see why if the ipo address is left at 192.168…. And is on vlan 300 which uses different ip address anyway you should be able to route the data switch port the ipo is on

Have you tried pinging the ipo address from your network

Also look at this
thread940-1724481

How to configure DHCP for IP phones

You have just to add SET VLANTEST 120 in the txt file, just in the end.
Vicevrsa, I would say to ask to a local Avaya Partner to do the job, that's the best solution if you are not confident

@snowman50.

We have avaya control management

And a network switch which we don't have access to.

Lan 1 port from the avaya is going to our switch which is managed its on 10.128 range vlan100 it was on 192.168 range.

Wan port 2 is connected to the network switch we don't have access to. But I can connect to the ipo on 10.128 range. I know the pool is set to 10.253 range and 255.255 and the pool is set to 100.

But I did see ip route not configured.

Also to note its the whole ip phones just sitting on dhcp timer and it says vlan300.

I can connect to the ip office manager fine ans access the sd card.

Well assuming the second switch is just for IPPhones only you should be able to connect a laptop to this switch and see if you can get dhcp from it.

If not then set your laptop to a static address in the same range as the ip phones.
You should at least get access to the ipo..on 10.253 range

I would disconnect your Lan 1 connection from your switch and see if the phones start to get DHCP.
Basically what you are trying to do is to determine if there is any interference from your network.
This will hopefully allow the phone system work independently from your network.

Hope you don’t have sip lines .

Is the second switch an Avaya data switch..probably configured for ip phones.

Also use Monitor to see what the phones are doing.

Google this..tons of videos on this

For me it sounds like the switch config doesn't match the DHCP options. Or something similar.

As long as you don't have access to nothing you may create shitty workarounds but you will run into problems again and again.

So I would Streuung recommend to check how to get access to the switches, towers and DHCP server.

IP Office remote service
IP Office certificate check
CLI based call blocking
SCN fallback over PSTN

@snowman50.
It's a cisco sf500 48p. I've tried to just keep lan port disconnected and reboot the switch and control panel. But I'll double make sure tommrow.

I'll connect up my laptop to the switch. I tried today it was given me 169 address. I'll setup a static and Try access the ipo.

Morning All,
I've disconnected Lan 1 and connected my laptop to the switch it's not picking up ip address it's reverting to 169 address. so i think the switch needs a console cable connected to it and see what's happened.

I've reconnected the lan 1 and i can ping my ipo address fine.

What I am trying to understand is the second switch for ip phones only or are they across all switches.

It sounds as though the second lanport (wan2) of the ipo is the connection for the phones

So you need to set the laptop to the phone ip range 10.253.. then ping the ipo on this range.

It doesn’t matter as both lan ports are on the network as both should be accessible to ping if your on the same ip range your trying to ping

You are an IT person so this should be up your street.

If all else fails plug in a small data switch to the ipo wan port and connect 1 iPhone to it and see if it gets dhcp from the phone system.

Do your basics…where does the dhcp come from
Your server or the ipo.

Have you checked this yet.

All else fails …call the retired IT guy.😂

IP phones are getting it from it's own dedicatied network switch...and it's seperated from our network switches.

Yes i have done that also... setup laptop in that ip range.

and ill connect up a small switch and connect to the phone

How many phones do you have? At this point just go around to all the phones and statically assign the IP and Call Server information.

@@snowman50 so connected up a small switch to wanport 2 and the phone connected fine. But connecting the phone directly to wanport 2 doesn't work.

We have also found the switch gateway and tried to get in but the standard cisco username and password doesn't work. Oddly enough the switch gateway is 192. Range. So we might reset the password without hopefully lose config.

@bluemr2 we have about 250 phones. It's only me so I was thinking doing that.
