VLAN file location

Does the system have a 46xxspecials.txt file present with information listed under the heading '############### LAYER 2 VLAN AND QOS SETTINGS ##############' ?

Hi Tony,

OK - Are you running any DCHP options on your network for options 242 or 176 pointing the phones to the VLAN?

If not, maybe you just need to access the CRAFT menu and check the items under 'ADDR'. At the bottom, it will list VLAN details.

Hi Tim,

According to the email from the vendor (he is no longer in business) there is 242 option but I cannot locate where this option file or setting is located. The DHCP is being set by sonicwall and not IP office. AM I supposed to look in the sonicwall?

Any idea where this 242 option file is located? Thank you.

Then it's configured somewhere in the Sonicwall DHCP Server settings

IP Office remote service
IP Office certificate check
CLI based call blocking
SCN fallback over PSTN

Derfloh is correct - the DHCP options are coming from the SonicWall. It's not a file, it's a setting in the SonicWalls DHCP options.

Option 242 will look something like this:

MCIPADD=X.X.X.X,MCPORT=1719,HTTPSRVR=X.X.X.X,L2Q=1,L2QVLAN=10,VLANTEST=0

In the above example, the VLAN is 10 and the X.X.X.X represent the IP Address of the IP Office.

OK let me look in the sonicwall, it might take days before I report back, thank you!

1) If the phones are using a VLAN, that was a deliberate change made by someone, potentially to optimize VoIP over non-VoIP traffic. If that was all done properly, there will be other changes in the networks routers and firewalls to optimize the VLAN quality of service over others networks. Long-short: Putting the phones all back onto the same LAN as everything else may be reopening a can of previously resolved voice quality issues.

2) As folks have said, its usually whichever device is doing DHCP for the network that tells them they should go to the VLAN (aka. virtual interface or sub-interface) and request a VLAN address there. The wrinkle with VLAN is it does allow scenarios where more than one DHCP server can be running on the network, one for the initial network and one for the VLAN. Rarer, but possible.

3) You really haven't told us why the IP Office address needs to change? What is being added/removed/changed on the network that means the IP Office needs to move?


Stuck in a never ending cycle of file copying.

Tim was correct, the 242 option was in my SonicWall, and I have been able to make my IP change.
