A customer of ours are trying to implement a paging solution and are now looking for assistance to get it to work but I am having some difficulty.

I know that simultaneous paging requires an analogue station to be setup as a paging speaker and I am using a WMT-1A in line with the PCM 2000 and using a dial paging short code to the station.

I can initiate a page call on the phone system side and hear audio with a test set but cannot get the Bogen device to answer so I may select a zone. Playing around with the PCM2000 settings usually ends up causing a busy tone when trying to page.

Does anyone know what settings on the PCM 2000 to use to possibly get this to work, if it is possible to work at all?

Not going to happen. You need either a trunk port or station port. The page port requires a contact closure that the IPO does not have. You might be able to get it to work with some other page adapter to interface to the PCM2000 and provide the contact closure, I have never tried. The Viking FXI-1A would probably work, but I have never tried it.

The problem is the PCM-2000 is it is also a zone-page adapter, and you need to dial a page zone or all call. But, there is an emergency override port that requires a contact closure to operate. For a particular car dealer that wanted zones of loudspeaker paging, and an all call page of all telephones and all loudspeaker zones, we added a Bogen UTI-1 and wired it up this way:

Shortcode to the trunk port for loudspeaker zone pages
Shortcode to dial-page the hunt group with the phones and the analog paging port for simultaneous paging

If you are going to go to all that work just get a bogen UTI-312 three zone page adapter. And an FYI the override port doesn't need a contact closure, you can use any loop start trunk. The main advantage to the PCM 2000 is you can configure it to have three zones with a single amp.

I would love it if we could promote the proper Avaya design solution to the voltage drop problem on the analog page port and recommend the Valcom VMT-2 isolation transformer instead of the resistor method. Yes it works. Is it Avaya approved? No.

The reason for using the Override port with the contact closure is you can't use a trunk port for simultaneous paging, and you can't use the normal input port without dialing a zone (not conducive for simultaneous page). Our customer already had the PCM-2000 installed and working with their previous Merlin Legend, a UTI was automatically included on the order to be used or returned if not needed, and the local Radio Shack sells resistors but not Valcom transformers. I'd LOVE for our company to start including the Valcom transformer as a non-optional item every time paging integration is sold with a system!!

Thank you Tommy, that sounds like a great solution. As a poor mans solution I was thinking of playing with the IPO's built in contact closures and having them press 2 buttons to make a page but this definitely seems like the best way. Greatly appreciated.
