Here's the problem. I have recently developed a minor problem that is probably a sign of a sleeping giant problem. When I turn on my computer, I have to hit the reset button before my monitor can get a signal. I hit the main power switch, & then hit the reset button just before the hard drives spin up. I have tested w/ different monitors, but don't have extra vid cards & motherboards to test with. Anybody know which is the likely culprit, vid card or motherboard? Thanx for your help.

I wouldn't think it's hardware failure as such but a sofware clitch, bios? tried clearing the CMOS and resetting? bios. Does your board have onboard graphics plus a card in the AGP slot? does something need disabling? tried reseating the display card etc. Martin Vote if you found this post helpful please!!

I apologize. I didn't say all the things I've done in my process of diagnosis. I have reset the cmos, as well as take the card & reseat it multiple times. Nothing seems to work.

There are some problems that show up with fast machines where they process to the BIOS access point before the device has finished power up reset. Since video is accessed very early in the boot process, I would assume that this is the problem.
You probably will have this until you replace the card. Or possibly the power supply since the processor is held off until the power good signal comes up. Ed Fair

If that is the case though, wouldn't it have shown up before? I've had this exact system for about 2 yrs. I did put in some more ram, could that be the cause?

Unlikely, ram test comes after video initialization.
But that being said, did the problem start after you added memory?
