I am unable to back up a MXe 3300 V5.0. The Error message I receive is Java is out of date. My Internet Explorer is at 11 and Java is at 8. I reading other posts I gather the MXe SW will not work with this Explorer Java combination. Past post suggesting removing IE Security update KB2744842. but I do not see that in the list. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks in advanced.

Easiest Solution is to use the Mitel SW Installer Tool to perform backups

What's most important is that you realise ... There is no spoon.

Software installer tool. Or, add the IP of the controller to your Java Security Exceptions list, and see KB 12-5191-00282 to see if you need to load a patch to the controller to allow Java to run properly.

Thanks for the responses. How I found this problem is a HDD has failed and we were going to do a Backup before replacing the bad HDD.
At this moment I am having a local computer shop down the street configure an old laptop for XP. so we'll see how that goes.
1)kwbMitel and Lundah you suggest using the installer tool. Giving my scenario how would I do that. I know the installer tool will do a back up before a upgrade. Is it possible just to do the back up? Also, you are saying because the installer tool is not using Explorer. I should not run into this problem. We realize we need to update this system. We want to get the HDD replaced 1st.

2)Lundah, I do have the IP in Java Security Exceptions. I will look at the KB.

Hi cdpak,

I made this doco up last time I was hving the same issue. This is the process for backup without performing an upgrade:

Performing Back Up with Mitel Business Software Installer
1. Open up Mitel Business Software Installer.
2. Select the “3300 ICP” option.
3. Enter the log in details for the system
- Enter the IP address for the Controller.
- System Login ID for the Controller.
- System Password for the Controller.
4. Click on the configure button.
5. Choose to “Perform Full Install” but leave “Migrate SX-2000 Database” unchecked.
6. Under Full Install Configuration select the “3300 FTP Server”.
7. In the 3300 Software location box, browse to find your FTP-Root Folder.
8. Click the Next button.
9. Under Backup:
- Choose a location to save the backup. Select the FTP-Root folder again and follow it with the file name. e.g. C:\TFTP-Root\SiteName_Backup_Date
- Select “Backup Call History records”
- Select “Backup Voice mail messages”
10. Make sure “Install software version [XX.X.X.XX]” is unchecked.
11. Under Help Files, make sure “Do Not Install” is the only one checked.
12. Make sure “License and Option Configuration” is unchecked.
13. Make sure “Database Restore” is unchecked.
14. Click the Next button.
15. Mitel Business Software Installer is now ready to backup, select the Start button to begin.
16. The system will advise you: The current configuration has completed successfully. Click OK.
17. Click the Done Button.
18. Confirm the backup has saved at your set location.
19. Close Mitel Business Software Installer.
