Hi UCx guys, can you perhaps give me some feedback on how I could improve a few things with my remote setup.

I am currently at a cottage in Northern Michigan and I brought a mini version of the UCx along with me connected via external IP address back to the host UCx50 in Chicago. I would like to make changes to the GUI remotely. I used to be able to do this, but I upgraded to a newer version and the capability doesn't work anymore.

Here is a pic of my setup. I setup my Macbook Pro to share the wi-fi connection from the owners of the cabins. Then I plugged that shared thunderbolt connection into my Nortel POE BES50 switch and then plugged 2 IP phones into the POE switch. They have an awesome internet connection, so I've been using the phones and haven't had any dropped calls yet! Awesome.

The ability to access the management GUI for your UCx from a remote location does not depend on the UCx - it depends on the configuration of your router that you have at home. All you need is to forward a port on the home router (could be 443 if you don't already use it for some other purpose) to the port 443 (HTTPS) on your UCx.

I agree with ucxguy on this one. Sounds like a Port Forwarding issue on your router....

Another trick if you don't want to open Port 443 on your Router is to pick a port that isn't used often or for any specific reason, I use Port 9898 and port forward that port internally in the Router to Port 443 of the UCx. Then your web address would be " address of Router>:9898, this would point the request to the UCx Port 443 and then you have access to the GUI.

You can use this method to do a lot of things concerning Port Forwarding in your Router without sacrificing security on commonly used ports that hackers try to get to......Just a thought...

I run OpenVPN on my routers, thus providing access to any device behind the router without forwarding any ports
