Hi there,

I'm creating a custom keymap for 5312 phones; I looked at the mapping (key 12 on 3300 is 11 on 5000). I put the phone in both Standard and Alternate, and the changes do not reflect. I did the programming on Devices and Feature codes/Phones/extension and still no go.

It stays stuck on the default keymap. Something missing?

Sounds like you're changing the user programmable keys.
Change keys under System/Phone-Related Information/Key Assignments
Double click the key map type (where it brings up a picture of the phone) and change the programming there.

Get used to it Yankblan, button programming through the admin software sucks on the 5000, not what you're used to, it's not very intuitive. Much easier on the handset itself though :)

Sarond is correct.

Andy it couldn't be much easier, you get a picture of the phone with a number beside each key then a table below that with the key number and a drop down box to change the designation.

Even an Avaya engineer could do it! ;)

Not quite that easy Dave, you can't just click any button and programme it, it will say this not a user programmable button, and then the user programmable buttons are not necessarily in the order you would expect, the first button is not button 1 and button 6 is not button 6 you need to see which user programmable button each button is and than assign it :)

I'm with NTEDave on this one, it is simple enough once you have the picture of the phone with all the keys clearly labeled.

@amriddle01, once you get a few more systems under your belt you'll appreciate it more.

What's most important is that you realise ... There is no spoon.

What happens if you right click on the extension and choose to default the keys?

yankblan, you can't just follow the programming through for the handset until you reach the keymap and change it as that will change it for everybody, you need to create a new keymap for that handset/user match the keys to whatever you assigned via the default keymap and then cutomise the keys for that individual, then you can add the user/handset to that keymaps list, forget looking at the user programmeable key section as it will just confuse the whole situation, it does not tally with what is set in the keymap :)

@amriddle01
I agree that the user defined keys are nothing like the keymappings. I'm not sure about everybody else but normally create a few fixed keys from the keymap (Call 1, Call 2, etc...) and then create user programmable keys for the rest. This will then allow users to program whatever they like, I will of course them some default user programmed keys such as DSS etc... I also program my user programmable keys similar to the buttons numbering.

Yes I agree you do have to be careful what you change in the key assignments as it will change all users associated.
