Hello,

I configured a IIS 5.1 Server to upgrade the firmware in our 9650 IP phones. I manually configured the address information in one phone for testing... the phone check for the right ip address for the HTTP server but after a minut it display a message saying: HTTP: 1 -905 and then bad filesrv. I tested the HTTP server and I am able to access the firmware files... Any idea of what I may be misssing here?.. does someone has a step by step configuration for upgrading Avaya 9600 phones?

Thanks in advance!

-905 is the error code for "HTTPS" file not found, are you using "TLSSRVR=" on your DHCP option 242? If so, you need to setup a TLS (HTTPS) server, which uses port 411. If you have a port 80 or 81 standard HTTP server, use "HTTPSRVR=", and "HTTPPORT=" in your DHCP Option 242.

-405 would be the error code for an HTTP server, file not found, FYI.

Mitch,

Do I need to have HTTPS and HTTP?... I was thinking I could use any one. I am testing it in one phone so I am manually entering the file server IP address in the phone.

Thanks again!

You probably need to change your DHCP Option 242, as long as no other phones reboot, you won;t hurt anything. I don't think manually typing in the fileserver address will work all the time, and in your case, it seems to think you are using HTTPS (TLS), which uses port 411.

the answer is, you can use HTTP on port 80/81, or TLS (HTTPS) on port 411. You don't need both, however, if you can't get it to use HTTP with port 80 or 81 by manually typing in the fileserver address, then it won't work.

Like I said, just modify your DHCP Option 242, do it at night or in the evening if you are worried that other IP phones will be rebooted...

I will try it.

Thanks for the advice and your help.

Mitch,

I am not using TLSSERVER in my DHCP server option 242. I configured the HTTPSRVR and HTTPPORT in my DHCP server option 242. I cleared/reseted all IP information in the phone, the phone was able to receive all IP information from the DHCP server, I can see it's hiting the HTTP server in port 80... but nothing happen, it doens't upgrade and still displaying message. HTTP: 1 -905. This time it was looking for HTTP only and not the HTTPS port 411.

I am able to access the http server. i.e. if I do - then I can see all files and if I do I am able to see the file.

Any idea of what could be my problem?

Thanks again!

Yes, it probably wants to use port 81. Change your HTTP port in IIS or Apache (or whatever you are using) to serve out the files on port 81... bet it will work then :)

Mitch,

I guess I need to change the port in the DHCP server 242 option too. right?, I tried changing the port in the IIS and the 242 option but... still looking for the port 80... :)

Thanks!

Mitch,

I tested my IIS server... i.e and works fine, it list all the files.. I am wondering why my DHCP server is pushing the ip address but still sending port 80 and not the port 81.

Mitch,

In my DHCP server 242 option I have the string;

HTTPSRVR=a.b.c.d,HTTPPORT=81 where a.b.c.d is my HTTP server.

Thanks!

On the off chance it may be this,, make sure that you are allowing .scr and .txt in MIME types on the IIS server

Billybobdan,

I tried what you suggested but didn't work... :(

Thanks anyways!!

Ok, I configured the DHCP server 242 option for TLS (HTTPS) port 411, I can see the phone receive the correct information... the ip addres for the https server and the port 411... but still not getting the files.. any idea?.. one more thing.. if I try my https server.. i use... but I receive a message saying - 1.- click here to close this webpage, 2.- Continue to this website .. of course I select continue and it works.. but I have to accept that.. how does the phone can jump that part?, I think my problem could be when it gets to the certificate part. I already created a self-signed certificate, and its working since I am able to access the webpage, except that I have to accept to continue before it display the info.

Any idea?

Thanks!

Make sure your file is in the inetpub root. Make sure your HTTPS server is serving. Pop an IE (or equivalent) session on your laptop and point the url to your HTTPS server. You should get an "under contruction" message.
