Hello,
a customer of ours with an ip500 would like to use some ip softphones but they also need to have all line appearance buttons of their lines assign on them!
I cant see how its possible to do with phone manager softphone where i can have only speed dial and user buttons.

Do you think its possible to assign software line appearance buttons in an Avaya softphone?

I can not imaging why it should not work but i do not have experience in line appearances because i just do not program them
They are old fashion and should not be used at all

You can't, as tlpeter says line appearences are the old way of doing things and Avaya only puts them in there for stubborn clients and some special circumstances, Softphone is not designed to work on a key system unfortunatley :)

Softphone obeys call appearances though, which suprised me

(try it)

I have always wished that my computer would be as easy to use as my telephone.
My wish has come true. I no longer know how to use my telephone.

I did not try so i could be wrong as probably proven :)

They are old fashion indeed but i dont think its an absurd request.
They just want to visually watch all of their line channels and select one by pressing it. I can do this with any hardphone, why not with a softphone?

I also can't see how its possible to have call appearance buttons as well. The available options are only speed dial and user buttons.

It's because it was never intended to replace a hardphone, it is a tool for use out on the road making/taking a call with some added conveniance but not the versatility of a deskphone :)

That isn't what I said. There are no buttons - but virtual "call handling slots" with each call appearing the in active call window of PM

Softphone obeys the Call Appearances as programmed.

SP extn has 3 CA keys by default
try putting 3 simultaneous calls in to SP
Set Reserve Last CA - and try again you will only get 2 simultaneous calls (I have tried and tested this)
Remove a CA and you will only ever get 1 call (but with the ability to transfer) Again I tested this

So I conclude that the SP obeys the CA keys as programmed.

My comment was aimed at amriddle01.

Personally, I agree that line keys are an old fashioned way of handling calls. That being said, if your customer demands it - you can either try to program LA keys on the softphone and see what happens or convince the customer that they need to update their thinking. Even if LA keys do work on the release that you are running now, there is absolutely no guarantee that they will work with any upgrade. I suspect that Avaya will also not support that kind of configuratiomn

IF you get them used to using Park slots you may be able to get around this. it will appear on the softphone when there is a call parked and they can pick it up. it wont show the lines and when they are in use but it may be a work around for you. I try to get my customers who are used to line appearances to move over to park buttons it it usually works out for them.

You could always give them call status, if it's to save them getting busy signal/waiting for line when making outgoing calls :)
