Have a brand new Dell Optiplex 760 that is randomly shutting down 2 or 3 times per day since it was installed. The following error is appearing in the event log:

=====================================================
Event ID: 9
Source: iaStor

The device, \Device\Ide\iaStor0, did not respond within the timeout period.
====================================================

Chkdsk comes up clean. Seagate utiltiy comes up clean.

Any other suggestions?

I saw the same error recently on another Dell laptop.

Go to the Dell web site, SUPPORT, choose DRIVERS/Downloads, input your Service Tag and then look for new drivers under storage/controllers.

Install what's new. There might be a driver AND something referred to as something else that pertains to your SATA controller. The update was labeled URGENT.

Do another CHKDSK after updating and rebooting just to clean up the file system.

I saw the same error recently on another Dell laptop. Run manufacturer's hard drive utility AND/OR the built-in Dell diagnostics to make sure that the hard drive is not dieing.

If it's okay, go to the Dell web site, SUPPORT, choose DRIVERS/Downloads, input your Service Tag and then look for new drivers under storage/controllers.

IASTOR is the Intel driver for the P/SATA...

as mentioned, download the DELL drivers or the corresponding INTEL drivers for your chipset (they are usually newer than the Dell versions), as they have become either flaky or possibly corrupt...
