I have a HP Laserjet 2550n which has lost its' IP settings. Since it doesn't have a LCD display to interact with to enter settings, I assume I'll need a utility to manage the settings.

Can anyone tell me what tool I can use, and where I can find it for download, to manage these settings?

Thank you for any assistance.

With the printer on the LAN try entering;

http://LJ2550n
or
http://LJ2550

into Windows Explorer or Internet Explorer. You may get a webpage interface to the printer which will allow you to change the IP settings.

HTH Hugh,

well HP web jetadmin is the tool for this...

you need to find out what the mac address is on the network adapter on the printer...

you can type the mac right into jetadmin

Also if you have the disk that came with it in the first place. .they have a nice little windows app that can reapply those settings to the printer.

Thank you for your responses.

I've downloaded Hp web JetAdmin but I haven't had any success using it. It reports an error condition but does not find the HP printer that I'm trying to configure.

I'll keep working with it.

Once again, thank you for your suggestions.

Try re-seating the JetDirect card.

1) Power off the printer.
2) Remove/Replace the JetDirect card
3) Power the printer back on
4) Print a status page.

One of four things will happen.
1) The printer will have it's old settings back. You're done.
2) The printer will get an IP address from your DHCP server. You can then open your browser to that IP address and change the settings (Or telnet to that IP address)
3) If you don't have a DHCP server, you will have 0.0.0.0... you will need JetAdmin (or DHCP)
4) The JetDirect card is bad, and won't work at all, and won't show up on the status page.

Hope this helps!
