Hi all, I have a cluster consisting of 2 win2003 server (Active and Passive).

Yesterday, out of the sudden, my cluster node 1 down without any reason. And now all the resources move to custer node 2. I have up the cluster node 1 but dare not move back all the resources.

I have warnings in my Event Viewer Application Log stating something..."MS DTC has determined that the cluster service is configured but not running when MS DTC was started……" Event ID: 4147 and 4148, Source : MSDTC and MSDTC Client.

And I have noticed that the Distributed Transaction Coordinator service is not started thought its Startup type is automatic.

Should I start the services for both nodes?

Please kindly advice me. :-(

Millions of thanks

MSDTS should be a cluster resource. It should only be running on one node of the cluster at a time.

You'll want to add it as a cluster resource. The resource Type should be "Distributed Transaction Coordinator". After you add it as a resource you'll want to start it via the cluster admin console.

Hi Denny, thx for your reply. Sorry to be rude to ask you this.

Is it must to add it as the resource? And if I don't add it, will there be any problem infuture.

Please advice.

Million of thanks

You probably don't have to add it as a resource, but from what I remember it is supose to be listed as a resource so that it fails over with the cluster.

When I set it up I made it dependant on the Cluster Name and the Quarum resources (just so you know).

There aren't rude questions, don't worry about it.

Hi Denny, so to bother you again. May I know will the Distributed Transaction Coordinator appear in the Active Resources? I can see the File Share, IP Address, Network Name, Physical Disk and Print Spooler in the Active Resources but not the Distributed Transaction Coordinator.

And the Distributed Transaction Coordinator service is not started on both nodes. I tried to start the service on either node but failed.

So sorry that I very new to the cluster. And my boss keeps asking me what happen.

Million of Thanks

Yes it should show up in the Active Resources once it's started. What Resource group did you put it in? How many Resource Groups do you have?

After you add it as a resource Stop the service on both nodes via the Services App in Admin Tools. Then start the shared resource via the cluster manager.

Hi Denny, do you means inside the Resources Folder? I have the followings :

1)Quorum "Physical Disk"
2)Cluster IP Address "IPAddress"
3)Cluster Name "Network Nanme"
4)shared foler "File Share"
5)Printer Spooler.

For more info, my cluster is using mini-SAN as cluster.
Can I manually reinstall the service? I have search the MS Knowledge Base and found several articles.

Please advice.

Million of thanks

Looks like MSDTC wasn't added in correctly. You may need to try adding it in again.
