Please help.

I have a 1720 with a WIC-1ADSL in slot 0 and a WIC-1ENET in slot 1 and I don't have a problem. I am however running 12.3(17) IOS.

I have seen the problem you describe on other WIC/VIC modules that were unfortunately counterfeit. Did you get the card from eBay, via China by any chance?

Try the command 'show diag' and compare it to what mine looks like for the relevent WIC slot:

WIC/VIC Slot 1:
Ethernet 10bT
Daughter card-Version 4 TLV Cookie Format
Hardware Revision : 3.0
Part Number : 73-5797-03
Board Revision : A0

yeah got it off ebay here is what it says :

WIC Slot 0:
Unknown
Hardware revision 64.0 Board revision G0
Serial number 0960561920 Part number 130-18710-165
Test history 0x03 RMA number 66-65-48
Connector type PCI
EEPROM format version 4
EEPROM contents (hex):
0x20: 04 FF 40 00 39 41 03 00 82 49 16 A5 03 42 41 30
0x30: 80 00 00 00 00 02 02 C1 8B 56 4D 53 30 36 32 36

I think it might just be an IOS issue, the counterfeits usually have the 1st byte of the EEPROM as 0xFF, whereas yours is 0x04. You are running 12.2(6c) this isn't listed as compatible on the software advisor...... The problem is you only have 32MB DRAM and 8MB FLASH; what feature set do you need?

12.3(17) IP will work but all other feature sets of 12.3(17) need more memory. The only 12.2 IOS that is listed as supporting the WIC-1ENET card is 12.2ZH (32MB & 16MB)and 12.2YA (32MB & 8MB), but again both of these are IP only images.

I would suggest you download 12.3(17) IP and see if it recognises the card, if it does but you need a different feature set then you will need more memory.

Great where im i going to get 12.2YA .

i dont care about the feature set. just an image that can fit on my router and reconize the card.

ok this worked : c1700-sy-mz.122-11.T.bin

any one know what feature set it has and can it do SSH?

All the IP only images don't have any crypto features (you need this for SSH). The image you list is the IP PLUS image but the particular version - 12.2(11)T is not even listed on CCO as deferred so it probably full of bugs....

The nearest I can find on CCO is 12.2(13)T16 IP PLUS but this needs 48MB DRAM & 8MB FLASH....

Andy

how many dram slot does the 1720 have. Like can i put two chips in there.

ok i registered on the cisco site. how do i get access to the image files.

Ahh, its not quite that simple. You need to either be a partner with a support contract or you need to have a maintenance contract (SmartNet) for the equipment you have. When you purchased the router you have the option of taking software maintenance (on a yearly basis I think?). You then register the contract against your CCO ID and you can then download software for your specific device.
Your Cisco supplier should also be able to give the software as long as you aren't changing feature sets. They may charge a nominal fee if you don't have a support contract with them though...

There are however other ways of obtaining IOS, but they aren't exactly 'legal'.
