Hi all,

I am trying to attached database to the system but it is giving me error saying that :

error 3813 could not open new database 'test'. Create database is aborted.
device activation error. the physical file name 'f:/mssql/logs/test_log.ldf' may be incorrect!

How can i solve it. and attach database.

Thanks

Have you confirmed that you are pointing to the correct .mdf in the correct location?

yeah the mdf file is in the d: drive in mssql/data folder?

It's looking for the ldf file in f:\mssql\logs\. Are you sure that this folder exists and that it's not a mapped drive?

How are you trying to attach the file? Are you using a script or Enterprise Manager?

If a script, make sure you enter the correct file path.
If Enterprise Manager, make sure you browse to the correct files.

As MrDenny says...you state the files are in the D:\MSSQL\Data folder, but SQL Server is being told to look for them in 'f:/mssql/logs/test_log.ldf'

No I get error saying that

Cannot associate files with different databases.

what is this error not after try to attache it gives me that the
Cannot associate files with different databases.

But there is not data base exist on system by that name(testdb)??

That error usually means you are trying to attach the wrong files:

For example:
You want to attach TestDB, but are using files from OtherDB.

You say the error is this:
the physical file name 'f:/mssql/logs/test_log.ldf' may be incorrect!

But you say the database files are in:
the mdf file is in the d: drive in mssql/data folder

Were the .ldf files always on the F drive? Were the .mdf always on the D drive?

Please post the exact script that you are running to attach the database.
