Hey, I'm new to the forum. Iv'e looked around a bit and haven't found answers to my questions, so forgive me if these have already been asked.

1) when you cut and paste something, it will put it in the middle of the document, and not where you cut it from, how do paste in place?

2) in photoshop cs, if i want to move selection from multiple layers without flatening them, how do i do that? if i move several layers at once, it ignores my selection and just move the layers in their whole.

3) suppose i want to copy multiple layers to a different document, how can i do that?
thanks alot, yaniv!

1. Don't use cut. Instead select the area you want to extract and press CTRL + SHIFT + J . This will cut your selected area and automatically place it in a new layer in the same position. If you want to copy the selected area to the new layer then just use CTRL + J instead.

2. I think I've answered this one above if I've understood the question right. If you want to combine your cut or copied layer with another, just place the one above the other and merge down.

3. Create a layer set. You can do this by clicking the folder icon at the bottom of the layers pallette. Drag each layer you want to copy into the new layer set and then drag the set from the layers panel into your new document.

Once you have the selection, do a layer -> new -> via copy. The selected area will be on a new layer directly above the old. You won't even see it unless you move it.

Thanks guys, that actually helped alot. I'll try to explain myself better about no.2, which is the only question that hasn't been answered yet.

suppose you have a painting with a few layers. now, you want to move a selected part of the painting, which happens to spread on more then one layer. do you have to move that selection in each layer, or is there a way to move a selection that is on multiple layers? I don't want to create a new layer or copy the selection, just move a selected object.

So far I have been able to a) move multiple layers in one time, but then i move all the layers, and not just what i selected from those layers. or b) move my selection in one layer, but then i have to manually move it in all the other layers involved. Hope I made myself clearer this time around.

Right click on the layer to be copied and click Duplicate Layer and select the document you wish to copy it to.

Try Duplicating multiple layers into the same document then merge those layers. When that is done erase, delete, or do whatever method you are comfortable with to get rid of the extraneous stuff you don't want on the new layer.

(Try it my way, it might work...)
