Trying to set up a SOE (4T+4A+8DS+16VC) with 5420 digital sets. According to the Avaya website those phones are compatible with all IP Office platforms, but when I plug in they try and boot and then display system incompatibility. What am I missing?

Follow-up to the first question. I'm able to access the IP/soe from the wizard just fine, but from the manager Across the bottom I see the unit requesting a bootp and then a message unable to process, so I tried to manually set up the info for bootp, but there are bin files for the 403/406/412 but I dont see anything for the SOE versions?

If you have not already, download version 3.0(59) from Avaya and make sure it's the full CD you download, not just the binary files.

Install that Admin apps as normal.

Now unless you have reset your IP Office by mistake, Manager should not be sending a bin file to it. Chances are it's trying to send the firmware out to you DS phones rather than your IP Office, so make sure the 54xx bin files are in your Manager folder. Or, it may be failing to send hold music or something like that. In Manager, click View and select TFTP Log. This will show you what file is being requested.

If you have reset your unit, then do the following.

Make sure you have the IP address on you Manager PC set to something like 192.168.42.5 (IP Office uses 42.1)

Edit the Bootp entry for your IP Office in Manager...

MAC = the MAC address of your unit (you can get this from the TFTP log in Manager)
IP Adress = 192.168.42.1
File name = ip401ng.bin

Reboot the Small Office Edition with the LAN connected directly to your Manager PC (to avoid DHCP kicking in). This bin file should then upload.

Let me know how you get on.

Yeah I downloaded and installed the 3.0, still cannot access via the manager only from the wizard. And with the 3.0 the wizard gets to about 30% reading the config and errors out. Loaded 2.0 back on and the wizard reads it fine, but manager still does not see the unit.

Sounds like you need some help from someone who knows a little about the IPO and networking.

As mytelecoms said make sure you are on the same subnet as the IPO and with manager even try setting the preference address to the ipo's ip address.

Also make sure if using XP that you disable the firewall or run the avayafw.bat to open the correct ports

Well I admit I'm not the most knowledgable when it comes to the IPO, although I have successfully set up a few. As to networking I have a pretty good grasp spending the last 10 years as a network engineer. Seems odd that the wizard sees the ipo just fine, call status and monitor see it just fine but manager doesnt? Anyhow I finally did get manager to see it, swapping out the Avaya supplied patch cable for another. Nonetheless even with the latest admin suite the phones still display system incompatability. Frustrating as I've used these same phones with the same IPO without issue in other installs.

If the IPO has been upgraded to version 3.0(59) then the 54 series are compatible. Leave manager open and replug the phones in.

Try defaulting the IPO, seeing as you are having networking issues this might solve them.

If your 54xx phone says its incompatible then your system is not on 3.0 software but it has a lower build, thats also the reason your Wizard crashes.
I suggest to upgrade the unit but read the manuals first.

Try setting the tftp server address in manager to broadcast, 255.255.255.255, seen the 2420s not dl the bins unless this was set, but being 54xx they should have v3 bins in them anyway youd think
