We are strongly considering upgrading our 9.0.2 Illustrator and wanted some general feedback re: pro's and con's of this upgrade. I've seen plenty of not-so-pleasant comments on Ill 10, enough to make me wait on the upgrades.

While we do not push the limits on using 9.0.2, we do find ourselves looking at upgrading- but when to bite the bullet.

I know all upgrades have their issues and problems. I guess what I'm wondering is... Does this fall into the category of "Have you lost your mind? Don't do it- stick with 9.0.2!" Or "Have you lost your mind? Upgrade already and you really will see a big difference in the features!"

* Any issues using CS2 with 9.0.2 files? I would hate to mess up some client files.
* Any issues using Illustrator CS2 with Indesign 2.0.2? More precisely, bringing an Ill CS2 file into Indesign 2.0.2? I'm just getting to learn Indesign, but don't know about buying everything.
* How about using Photoshop 6.0.2 files with Ill CS2?
* We do almost all printing in-house. When we do go outside, have you seen any problems with a CS2 file being opened by an older Illustrator version?

We currently have one machine with Win 98 2nd edition and a second with Win XP. The win 98 has plenty of issues as far as freezing is concerned. I plan on upgrading that. I can't imagine CS2 working with my win 98 reliably if 9.0.2 cannot. The Win XP works just fine w/o any stability issues.

I look forward to all of your opinions- good and bad.
Thanks.

Nick:

I'm currently using CS, and I have had very few problems with it. I'm reluctant to upgrade to CS2, because there seem to be many bugs, some of which sound quite annoying. I'd suggest you wait a little while and see if Adobe comes out with a patch, or better yet try to buy CS, it should be for sale at a decent price here and there.
