Using Word, I have inserted a graphic that covers the whole page. I need to have page numbers show on TOP of the graphic instead of being hidden behind the graphic.

I am inserting page numbers using the header/footer.

Any help would be appreciated.

If your page numbers are in the Footer, place your graphic in the Header (or vice versa).

Format < backgroup < fill effects < picture tab < configure picture

Auger282, What version of Word are you using?

My Word 2000 has Format > Background > Fill Effects > Picture tab but no Configure Picture.

When I insert a picture using the above, it switches my view from Print Layout to Web Layout and displays the picture on screen (although tiled instead of filling the screen). When I switch to Print Layout or Print Preview, the picture disappears. More importantly, when I print the document, the page number (Footer) prints, but not the picture.

dcompto,

does not matter whether pic is in header or footer.

format picture/layout - select behind text

Hi, Skip,
I had already tested using Format Picture > Layout tab > Behind Text. Did not work--picture still printed over the page number (Footer). The only thing that worked for me in Word 2000 was what I mentioned in my first post:
If your page numbers are in the Footer, place your graphic in the Header (or vice versa).
I was just curious as to what version of Word was being used in Auger282's instructions.

funny? mine prints OK in 2000???

caveat: I had to TWICE set the behind text property before it worked! It seemed to regress to in front of text after I inserted the page number fields.

Argh! I knew that once upon a time, but obviously forgot! [upsidedown] Thanks, Skip!

I tried all of the above and non of them worked properly. I am using Microsoft Office Word 2003.

Remember, the graphic is 8.5 by 11 and must be perfectly aligned on the page to cover the whole page.

Whenever I could get the page numbers in the footer to show on top of the graphic, I was unable to properly position the graphic.

I finally gave up and used Adobe Pagemaker.

Thanks for all of your suggestions!

Jack

Odd. I have no problems at all resizing the background image to full page. It does not affect the footer text whatsopever. Word 2002 (XP).

Would you mind going over which of the methods listed above was successful for you. I need a step by step explanation. I just can't seem to get it to work for me.

The essential steps...

1. Insert your [Page] field and other text in the header or footer.

2. Insert the PIC in the header or footer. Size to page.

3. Format the PIC LAYOUT - Behind Text.

If necessary, repeat step 3.

I bow before the master (Skip) whose speed in sending replies exceeds my clumsy fingers. However, that is not what I did.

I did:

1. Inserted the image using Format > Background > Print watermark.

2. Fiddled with the sizing until it fitted the whole page.

3. Selected OK.

4. View > Header and Footer.

5. Typed in my text. This was: "Page {PAGE} of {NUMPAGES}

In other words, no, I did NOT put the image into the header/footer itself as Skip did. Maybe 2003 is that much different - don't know. But I also do not have a Configure photo. But I do have (with Printed Watermark a "Scale" field.

I tried both Femei and Skipvought's method and they both worked this time. I don't know what I was doing wrong in my earlier attempts.

Thanks guys!
