I recently did a full upgrade from Windows ME to XP Professional. I reformatted first just in case. As expected some of the devoces didn't work but I was able to get updated drivers for them, sound card and video card.
The modem refused to work. XP couldn't see it. I went to my local computer shop - PC World - who advised I should buy a new XP compatible modem - which I did. I purchased a Zoom V.92 56K-PCI modem which stated on the packaging that it was XP compliant. The quick start doco which came with the Modem stated not to worry on install if the XP Window popped up saying more or less to install at your own risk.
I installed it and now have a working modem, albeit intermittant. It won't hold a connection for more than about five minutes, then drops. I had no connection issues at all under Windows ME - I suspect my phone line is O.K.
I've dropped the speed of the modem and changed the buffer sizes - all to no avail.
Is this familiar to anyone? Is it an XP issue or a dud modem or both? Can anyone help please, it's driving me nuts.
