Hi,

I am trying to connect a Bogen Zoned Paging Adapter to my CICS 6.0 via CI Trunk port, but can't get the KSU to recognize the port to use it this way. Is there a workaround?

Thanks!

ALL YOU SHOULD HAVE TO DO IS CONNECT THE PAGE ADAPTER AND SET UP YOUR TRUNK.

Thanks for your reply. That's what I thought, too! I have tried to do this a few times over the past year or so on a CICS, and the KSU won't let me access the line because it senses that the port is not connected to dial tone. The KSU sends an error message "Line Not In Use"...is this a recent phenomenon? Maybe it will recognize the line if I connect 48V DC to the port? Any suggestions?

If that's your issue, set the Bogen to have line voltage. I had the same problem on the GATM4 MBM modules.

Not sure how to do that...I don't have a manual. I'll check the Bogen Website. Thanks!

You may want to try using the page port. As I recall, later releases of sw do pass dtmf, so you can use them for zone paging.

I use valcom zone pagers for most of my customers, and there's a dip switch setting to turn on/off line voltage to support either trunk ports or 600 ohm page inputs. I'm sure your Bogen unit has something similar.

Passing DTMF is the issue...I am using 6.0 software. Is DTMF passed via the Paging Port?

I don't remember which sw started that. Easy way to check- put a butt set on the page port, dial f62 from an ext, and start pressing digits. You should hear the dtmf.

Good Point! Thanks...I know that earlier versions did not pass DTMF. If 6.0 does, then my problem is solved!

You can pass digits thru the page port from any set except a digital mobility set. Also are you sure it says line not in use or is it displaying not in service. If it's displays not in service you've got the wrong line programmed on the set.You don't need voltage on a line for you to be able to access it from a set. I have used a CO port on the system to trigger panic alarms by accessing the line. Works great every time.

The display says "line not in service", but I know that it is the right line...I have the actual line button programmed on the set. I also tried an access code. Now that I think about it, I probably do want to use the trunk because the customer has talk-back paging horns...the page port only provides page out, right?

an advantage of the page port is you can then incorporate the station paging with the overhead paging.

By the way DTMF shows up at 4.0 software.

Yes, if using talk-back paging, you must use a CO Line port.

Which line are you trying to connect to? For 6.0 sw, your first card (on the left) is CO01-CO04, and on the second, it's CO025-028. If you're programming Line 5, it needs to be 025.

You're probably right, Brian. I don't have a 6.0 manual handy, and I trust your memory more than mine.

Update-Needed to do the same thing on an MICS, and did not have a problem. Is this indicative of the CICS? Anybody else have this problem?

Having a line "not in service" usually indicates that there's no TC port to service that line. Has your CICS have 1 line card or 2?
