zone file and resolver

Is the zone file and resolver have the same use? i found online that a zone file is a set of instructions for resolving domain names to the appropriate number form or IP address. A resolver is also a small program that searches for the correct ip address. what is their difference, or are they both the same??

The DNS server *CAN* be enabled to be a resolving DNS server to answer questions about domains/zones that it doesn't have authority over.

Your ISP is going to be authoritative for their domain and perhaps any domains you have hosted with them. However, their DNS is also probably a resolving server to help you find
