I use CounterSpy and BitDefender 9 Standard to guard against virus and malware attack. The latter tells me my system is infected with zlob.ADV trojan and that its efforts to delete or quarantine it have failed. (CounterSpy didn't even detect it.) When I google zlob.ADV all I seem to get are other anti-malware products who claim "FREE DOWNLOAD!", then hit you up to buy their product to remove the trojan. Is there somewhere that I can download software that will enable me to remove this trojan for free?

You could try hijackThis and see if it flags up any of zlob's processes. Also, you could try and work out which proscesses it does spawn and see if you could find where it's living in your file system, then go to safe mode and start deleting them.
If it becomes too hard to get rid of it then you may need a format/reinstall to be sure. I can't even tel exactly what it does after googling it.
Other AV suites may call it something else of course.
