I have some files that were compressed using the standard zlib library, and I'm looking for a shell command that will uncompress them. I also need a shell command to create compressed files in zlib-compatible format.

I've checked gzip/gunzip and compress/uncompress, but could not get them working the way I need.

I'm using Debian Sarge.

Can anybody help please?

Thanks a lot.

Just to clarify - the files were compressed using zlib's "compress" function.

I have that module, thanks, and it works, but I was hoping to get a standard shell command if possible.
