Hello Newb here , When I link a zip file the whole page forwards to blank page , the download pops up , but the page the link is on is gone ???
Can someone / anyone help with this ?
Thanks !!!

I'm going to make some guesses here. You have a website running on an apache web server. You have files that you want vistors to your site to be able to download. When a vistor clicks on a link to one of these files, they get the blank screen with the pop up window. Orrr, you are at tucows and want a file. You click on it and get a blank screen with a pop up window. In either case here is what I think is happening. When you click on the link your browser goes to where the file is. There is no html to be displayed so the page is blank. The file that is pointed to is a zip file so it can't be displayed or executed so it assumes you want to download it and the browser pops up the window. If you want to do this right you might wanna check out and see if they have any download programs. I've seen some good ones in both cgi and php.

RhythmAce,

This happening is not standard behaiviour for a browser..

When a link to a zip file is clicked, the page you are on should not change but instead, the browser sees the zip ext and then prompts for download. The page is still the same with no change.

This problem is either caused by incorrect settings in your browser or incorrect coding of your page.

Can you post the url to the problem page here??

Hope this helps Wullie

Hi and Thanks for Responding : The First is Correct , I'm Running a Apache Server , I've added some zip files to a out side database on a reg host of mine , so i can give you a couple of examples , Heres the Outside Database :
And Heres a Page I put up on my home server with one Direct link Download :

I'm having the trouble on all the cpu's i've tried it on ,
98 ,me ,2000, and Xp , Could it be something in with my conf file ???
And the problem is with both .
Also both downloads are on my home server ..
Thanks for you help !

The browsers are doing what is expected of them. In a case where you were pointing to a .zip file directly, the browser would just pop up a window prompting for download (not always true with linux netscape). But in both cases here, the browser is being directed to a script. This is done so the browser never sees the location of the file, only the url of the script. You should be able to fix this in a couple way. First you can add some html code to the script or have the script run in a new window. To test if this is true, put a zip file in your html directory and browse to it. For example and see if it pops up a download window but keeps displaying the last page. If not it must be the script.

Strange , But when i click on the last link posted here , the download and a whole new blank page comes up , But if I put the url in the address bar it still just forwards to a blank/next page ???
