Our program zips database records and word documents into a single zip file so that the users can move their files from immoble, non-networkable stations to their network machines. There are some complaints that virus scanning does not work on zip files, and that some of the word documents contain macro viruses. We do not know which of our users have what kind of virus checkers, or when they are active.

Are there any virus checking componenets that can be included in our executable, or is there a particular kind of virus protection that will work with zip files?

My copy of Norton Anti-Virus has an option to check inside compressed files.

AFAIK many antiviruses can surge ZIPs. Try another one, that's all. The only way to get viruses scan routine is to ask AV manufacturer (imagine how much it costs...)

Hi,

If the file contained a virus when you opened it from the ZIP it would most likly be detected when the virus payload tried to execute.

Is it just taht your users are seeing the standard Microsoft Word/Excel message advising that the File contains a MACRO which 'MAY!!' contain a virus.

Kind Regards, Paul Benn

The virus detector is detecting the CAP A virus. We store zip files on the server, and they are copied down and opened locally. My understanding is that they can quarantine zip files, but not fix them.
