I am setting up a test lab trying to get ZFD 4 working with our xp environment with Netware 6.5. I have installed ZFD 4 on all of the servers with all updates (ir 4, ir 5, etc) Have updated the client to 4.9 sp2, and the newest workstation agent. I created a simple app associated with a test user and also a user policy package with some simple restrictions and associated it with just that user. When I login I get the app but no group policies take effect, what am I missing????

Do you have the Novell Desktop management icon in the sys tray, and if so when you open it does anything show up when you display the schedule? and does is your user a local admin to the pc or is it just a user?

When I open it nothing is in the box. completely empty.. What check box did I forget.... ;)

When you setup your policy package did you set the policy on the correct OS tab, and did you rememeber to check the enable box for the policy

Policy is enables, thought I had the os right but will reset and try again.

No luck, policies enabled, os is set to correct type, event set at login. Not sure what I have missed but it's so close just no policies.

First, I would disable the firewall in XP if you have SP2 installed.

Second, does the user have read and file scan rights to the location of the .adm files?

I am using test machines without sp2, wanted to make the test as simple as possible, once I get everything working I will deploy sp2 in the lab environment and see what happens but I had assigned r+f to a folder on \\server\data\group_pol\student but I will double check rights and try again.

Okay, double checked rights to the policy folder and everything was ok but it still didn't work. Created new policy folder in sys:public\policy, checked rights, recreated user policy package and it still doesn't work. All apps are coming down but the policy just will not work for me. When I edit the group policy in c1 it writes the policy to the folder and I can see the files and folders in the appropriate folder but they are just not taking effect.

dsimpaired, this sounds familiar. I had a similar issue that IIRC was resolved by deleting the default GPO and rebuilding it from templates in the security folder. There is a KB article, but I don't remember the number. I will research it and post the article if I can find it.

dsimpaired, have you checked the workstation event viewer logs? I think you might find an eventid related to group policies that will get us where we need to go.

I will give it a try, appreciate the responses, will not be back in the lab until monday but will give you guys an update, thx again.

Update:

Still no luck so I tried 2 things.. Tried current settings with completely fresh install of xp and client 4.9 sp2 and everything worked fine. App explorer works, and policies are in effect.

2nd. Went back to test machine and tried reinstalling client and noticed that on reinstall custom options were not available so I removed all things novell and reinstalled and still no luck so I think something is corrupt on my test machine so I will continue on new machine and update to xp sp2 and see what breaks. Thanks for the input guys.
