ZENWorks Inventory Database

Ok, here's the problem. We have ZENworks 7 installed on a Network 6.5, SP6 box. With the inventory database running it will case the server to abend from time to time. This then affects our matrix and we take a hit then.

To eliminate the abends we commented out certain parts of ZEN in the autoexec.ncf. So now ZEN is still collecting data on systems but not adding anything to the database. This has been going on for about a year now. We would like to get this working once again.

Instead of troubleshooting the abend since this is on older hardware we were wanting to move just the inventory database from this box to another. That may or may not be the correct thing to do.

Is moving the inventory database to another server possible and if so how? Or is it better to just reinstall the database on another server and have it point to it? If it is then what needs to be done for this.

Thanks in advance.

Is there anything in the database from a year ago you care about?

The Zen7 Inventory database does not store historical data, only how things are right now. So there is a good chance your year old database has nothing in it that is current.

You can move the database if you want, or you can load the database on another server if you want.

This will give you the information you need to move the database files.
To create a new one, just run the installer against the server you wish to host the database and choose to just install the inventory database.

A better option would be to look into the Asset Inventory part of Zenworks. Much better inventory reports, and much easier to use. It's pretty much Asset Managment Light, all the inventory features, none of the license tracking and historical data. You should be licensed for it, check the Customer Care portal to see.
