I was looking for some info on installing Zen Works. I had Zen 6.5 installed in one of my schools this past summer. I was
looking to install the package in the other schools this year but I'm not sure if it's necessary. This is my network setup.

- OU=School 2 (Zen Installed)
- OU=School 3

Do I need to install Zen on all 3 servers or can I use the single server in School 2 to service the district?
They are 3 sperate sites with a point to point T1 for a WAN

Thanks!

Well, what you install on each server depends on what you want to accomplish, what services you want to run, etc.

You probably DO want to have services running locally.. but just saying ZEN is a pretty general thing.

Say you don't install it on each server and you run stuff from one server at your other school, anything you do that requires file transfers or whatever -- it will take longer. So putting services local makes it fast and efficient. But at the same time, a tiered structure works good for Inventory so you can have local inventory services but have the info sent up to a main server for easier reporting and stuff.

You certainly don't want to pull images down from across your WAN. You want them local.

That's a good point, I didn't think of file transfers. For starters I was looking to get the DLU package working in the smaller schools to combat the windows/novell login issue they have with thier 2k/xp boxes.

Thanks for the info.
