I ahd tried previously to set up a zebra printer connected to a pc via visionfs and finally gave up on that. Last week when I ahd some extra time I installed a single port hp jet direct and hooked it up to that. Jet direct is on a static IP and communications are fine as test throug the scoadmin hp print services. The hp Web admin tool on my pc, sees the ip and identifies the printer as the proper model. But printing from bbx and unform I get no output.

Normally when adding a printer I do a test print from a command line such as lp -dzebra textfile. Is there a way to test a zebra at the comman level?

Right now, all attempts return a "Printing stopped with an exit code of 2." message

The text file would have to be in Zebra format, and they have more than one Programming language (ZPL). If you can print from Windows, I'd change the printer destination for that printer to a "file", then print a test. You should be able to move that file over to the SCO system and submit the job like you have stated. If you cannot print from Windows, there may be an issue with the parallel port parameters on the JetDirect.

Which application produces that error message? BBx? Unform? Which version of Unform are you using?

I'm using unform 7. The message is from the lp system so I'm assuming there is a problem with the spooled file. I'm also not sure what printer type to use for the zebra in the scoadmin printer def. Ive tried different hp's as well as the network ps.

I printed to the printer from windows before putting it on the network with no problems.

I'll check the parallel set up to.

Can you telnet to the JetDirect IP address on TCP port 9100? You shouldn't need anything special configured in the UNIX spooler, as Unform will handle all the formatting issues. In fact, you probably want a very generic printer interface file (dumb or standard).

When you printed from Windows, was that also through the JetDirect?

If HPNP doesn't work, try "netcat". It uses basically the same interface mechanism, but a different binary. Let me know if you can't find "netcat". Tony swears by it ( and it's helped me on several occasions.

I can telnet to it and it says it's connected but there is no login of any kind and I assume that's normal. I'll dumb down the printer type in scoadmin.

I've read some about netcat, I'll look into it further.
