Zebra and Access Barcode Printing

I have a stock label that I am producing out of Access 97. I am using a report and the Zebra 2844 Code 39 printer font. I am having a hard time controling where the data is printed. Also, since I am only printing one label at a time it is taking as much as 30-60 seconds to print the label.

Would my problems be solved by outputting to a text file with ZPL code and copying that to the printer port?
