Z-index problem

Hey folks:

Seems we are stuck here at the office. We have added a Java Applet (scrolling news) to the front of a new site we are building and the darn drop-down menu goes behind the applet. Both of our programmers tried fiddling with the z-index and nothing.

Is there anyway to get this menu to go over the applet. Here is the site
Any help would be...well...helpful (and greatly appreciated)
