yum problem on fresh FC5

Hi,

On my freshly installed FC5, yum doesn't appear to be working. At first, I was getting an error that yum couldn't find a valid baseurl for "core"
I edited /etc/yum.repos.d/fedora.core.repo and I noticed that the baseurl was commented out
After removing the #, yum still doesn't work... :

http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedora/linux/core/5/i386/os/repodata/repomd.xml:

[Errno 4] IOError: <urlopen error >
Trying another mirror.
Cannot open/read repomd.xml file for repository: core

and so on

I can download the repomd.xml using wget, so it's not a connectivity or name resolution issue...

What can I do to fix this annoying problem ?
