Hi all,

My company gave a task to provide solutions on this problem:

The bird Flu and the flu pandemic seems to worry most people, especially where i come from. The management are worried that if the goverment issues that employees should stay home for a month or so then our company would suffer alot. Since our comapny is software based and mostly the income is tru support this would effect us alot.

What are your thoughts on how to keep the company running in the event of the above.

Regards
Ncik

Perhaps the company can sponsor a flu vaccination program for its employees and dependants.

That's already in progress...though the flu vaccination would be available in 20 months time!

The thing is that even though the vaccination has been carried out, if the goverment issues this 'law' that no employee should go to work for a set period of time then the employee has the right to stay home!

Thanks for your input
Nick

Virtual Private Networking (VPN). It allows workers to connect their home computers to the corporate network, and appear just as if they were at their desk.

Advantages:
Just like you were at work.
Communications are encrypted.
Some VPN providers have two-factor authentication (RSA key fobs, etc).

Disadvantages:
The company needs a *very* high-speed connection to the internet.
The employees need DSL or similar broadband connection (even dual-channel ISDN may be too slow).
Employees need anti-virus software on their home PC.

The last disadvantage can be overcome by allowing employees to take their work PC home with them (sign contract in blood, etc).

Some deals with Security Software Vendors can include the use of their Antivirus and Firewalls at home for use connecting to the corporate network. The company I work for has a deal such as this, which means any home workers (including me) can use the AV and FW on a home PC for the purpose of using it for work. Even though I have a laptop for my work (provided by the company) I tend to use my own computer as it is many times more powerful - so used this option to add as the AV and Software Firewall on my main workstation.

Check out the terms of the deal you have and discuss with the vendor - the price may be very reasonable.
