Crystal always has problems exporting to Excel. You will have to be more specific about the the type of problems you are having.

This is my soapbox issue. Why export to excel? The usual answer is that people are comfotable in excel and wish to further manipulate the data once it is there.

If this is the case, why not give them their desired end result in crystal itself?

I always ask this question when someone wants to export to excel, an 98% of the time, there is no reason to do this.

Well said, I always try that approach too. But usually find an accountant insisting on having excel as it gives them something to do.

Hi,
I have always believed in using the best tool for the task at hand..So, Crystal for reporting ( drill-downs, good formatting, good data access methods), Excel for Cross-Tabs and Charts/Graphs ( Far more powerful, flexible and editable than Crystal's ) and Word ( RTF, actually) for Mail-Merge operations.

Remember the old maxim - 'If the only tool you have is a hammer, every problem is seen as a nail'

Developing reports that cleanly export to Excel is a real pain. Here are some tips.

1. "Lock In" detail columns with vertical and horizonal grid marks.
2. Get rid of all uncessary white space in detail sections.

Remember, your output is being managed by a print engine. Excel conversion may put hidden line feeds exported workbooks.

Always encourage your users to use the export to excel (data only) option.

Always buy and review the help wanted ads in your local Sunday paper if you are in the habit of telling your users what they do and do not need. You will be needing it.

Here is an Article I wrote on this subject.
