You don't have permission to access file on this server

Hi all. I am new to Apache and trying to set up web server for my company. When I open my index.html(using

http://www.address.com)

I can not see gif file on the page. This is the message that I get when I click on my gif file that can not be opened with my index.html page.

Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /hevequip.gif on this server.

What should I do. Thanks.

Is this on a unix/linux server or Windows NT?

If it is on unix, you need to make sure that the file permissions on all documents in the htdocs (location of your web files) are set with file permissions at least 744 (rwxr__r__). You can do this with the chmod command. example: chmod -R 744 /usr/path-to-folder/htdocs

If it is in Windows NT, then you need to set the NTFS security permissions to allow the Apache user (or everyone) to READ/LIST for all file/folders in the htdocs.

Thanks but I solved this problem. My gif file was corrupted and I could not open it. I replaced the file and now irt works. Thanks for response.
