Hi,
I just book on sql server 2000 and I know that yokun is coming out beginning of next year I think.
Should I start getting into learning yokun and put sql server 2000 behind me or carry on learning about 2000 at the same time as yokun?
Thanks

I guess it depends on whether you can wait. Yukon (SQL Server 2005) is a development from SQL Server 2000. Anything learned from studying SQL Server 2000 has to be of help with 2005.

True... from what I saw Yukon has some welcomed improvements (error handling, date/time types, pivot queries etc.) but at the end SQL syntax and principles remained quite the same.

The main think about a new release is to find out what's new in it. New facilities ad things that have been dropped or don't work well.
Then you can design your systems with this in mind - try not to use things that are not avialable and watch out for things that will be replaced. In both cases try to seperate these things from the rest of the code so that they can be easily replaced.

As spirit1 says v2000 will be around ofr a long time yet and you wouldn't want to use v2005 in an important system before the end of next year probably. It's got quite a lot of stuff in it and sp2 at the earliest is usually a good yardstick.

Cursors are useful if you don't know sql.
DTS can be used in a similar way.
