Yet another WinSPM Password issue

I've looked through previous posts regarding WinSPM passwords. The windows (application) one is OK. It's the switch password I am having difficulty with. Furthermore, the site is remote and I won't be able to fly down to connect directly w/WinSPM.

I've tried the Avaya craxxx default with no luck. Apparently, it was changed, but I don't know to what.

I'll need to talk someone through changing the password remotely, but if memory serves correctly even on the SPM console it will ask for the old password.

Any suggestions?

So your windows is OK, you've tried (remotely), CraXXXX and whatever you had on record with no luck.

hmmm. I recall something about a reset button, but I think that is for the vm not the switch itself. I have seen 306466 used as a backdoor before. Have you tried that?

When you say console, do you mean the MLX-20L ?

Sorry, but that does not require the PASSWORD, nor does it allow you to change it.

In this situation, there's only about 2 other things you could do:

1) Set up a SERIAL printer to connect to the SMDR port, ship it there, and have them print SYSTEM SET UP. (with the console as the SPM Device)

-OR-

2) Configure a some cheap laptop for SPM and ship that to them and walk them through using SPM with it connected to the ADMIN port.

Campy, That other password didn't work. *I saw that post too.

Merlinman,
I know there is no password on the MLX20, however you can change the switch remote access password from the MLX20. The issue is I know I'll need the existing password to do that.

It's likekly I can't get a serial printer, can the information be extracted to a file? (I assume that can be done with the laptop & WinSPM?)

Yes, you can admin Remote Access Password from the MLX-20, however, Remote Access password IS NOT Sys Admin password.

Save to FILE, YES, you can set the LAPTOP up to run Hyperterm or PROCOMM (or some other terminal emulator) and capture the info to a file.

But, if you are able to get a PROPERLY CONFIGURED laptop on site, SPM or WINSPM can do the same thing for you with (I think) less effort.

Here's another hinky one:
I have a remote customer, with the default system password; I verified it in the software, and also used it to select a c.o. trunk (works fine), but when trying to access the system remotely you get an error message saying the password is incorrect...any ideas?

I would think it is due to line noise or such.

As I have said on another forum, I had so much trouble with connecting to one customer, I had to drive over there to do the programming.

I found the best way to deal with this client's noisy lines was to use STANDARD SPM (Not WINSPM) and dial in on (would you believe) their only T&R Line, not their T1 line.

I would suggest that you just keep trying.

Even with this bad boy, once in a while I am able to get in with WINSPM.

I'm not sure a noisy line is the problem in this case, I've tried it over a regular copper line and a T1 with the same result. I have a laptop still running the old DOS SPM, so I'll give it a try and see if it's something with WinSPM (including the WinSPM version of DOS SPM).
