I was in the grocery store over the weekend and I came across a product labeled "Yeast Rings". Most people, I suspect, know this product by another name. Any guesses to the more common name?

CC,

Be very careful about taking photos of yeast rings because in at least one community, such photos have been confused with Yeast Ring Child Pornography. <grin>

Who was the baker? In Atlanta it would be KK.

I prefer the geometry of a bagle over a bun, when I cut it. I dislike the concept in the next moment, when I butter it.
No bun intended.

I can't help but wonder what marketing person thought that a "yeast ring" would sound more appealing, or sell better, than a doughnut/donut (whichever spelling you prefer)?

And would the donut holes be "leaven lumps?"

Re:doughnut/donut (whichever spelling you prefer)?

Is Bagle an accepted spelling? I would typically use Bagel, but Bagle remains unchallenged at least 3 times above.

The reason that it went unchallenged is because that is an accepted spelling for a beagle-flavored bagel. <grin>

I prefer s-p-u-d-n-u-t. That should give you a hint to where I'm from. (No helping, Mufasa.)

A little late, but I thought I would comment on my lack of spelling accurately.

I let everyone know I do not spell accurately. In fact when someone ask me how to spell a word, I say I spell it incorrectly.[pilgrim]

Well a French (and Cajun) Doughnut is called a Beignets so I'll go with that.

I need to make some soon, I love them!

Now it all makes sense to me...My great-grandfather, who served in The Great War (WWI) used to always say, never go into battle without a fixed Beignet at the end of your rifle. I guess that Beignets were meant to make friends with your enemies, right?

Beignets are more like fritters than doughnuts. Still good, though, when sprinkled with confectioner's sugar and served with coffee and chicory.
