year to date caliculation

hi,

I have to display the netamount value for year to date based on active date.
We have year,quarter,month,date,activedate,revenue,netamount columns are there.
year to date caliculation should be current date -last year current date.please help me to caliculate the year to date

It might help if you reproduce this first in SQL before looking for a Cognos answer.
