Hey Everyone,

Whats up with Progresion and it's upgrades. I just recieved an email from Exact saying you have to upgrade to 7.6.200 to do year end. Is this really true? We are using 7.6.100. Forced upgrades seem pretty lame, especially since they take hours complete. In short, how do you guys deal with Progresion upgrades?

Before you get too worked up let me give you a little background. This is driven by Macola switching to Fujitsu Cobol compiler from Microfocus. Any "new" code, such as year end updates, must be on fujistu compiled code or else Exact would owe a bunch of royalty $$$ to Microfocus.

Now having said all that, the only real areas of exposure are if a) You are running Macola payroll or b)You are filing magnetic media 1099s with macola. In these cases you are most likely going to have to upgrade.

All of the other "year end" stuff *should* work, such as preliminary YE close, creating new calendars and balance forwards, etc. This part of the code has not really changed since the Y2K push from '96 to '98, and that is why I say this code *should* work.

We are going to release our official policy on this later this week after we put a few heads together, and I will be glad to pass that along if you are interested.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks Don,

I didn't mean to sound dramatic. But out of all our software Macola has to be the hardest to get "real" answers about. Also the TCO for Macola would be extremely high if we did everything Exact and our Macola consultants recommended. I guess I'm just stuck in the middle again.
