what all do you need to do to get yahoo messenger to work through isa server??

I'm not sure if there's a default protocol rule included with ISA but if there isn't just go ahead and define one urself. Goto ur Yahoo msg's manual and check out what port it uses.. make sure u know the protocol.. then go into ISA management.. click on protocol definitions.. define new definition.. after u're done go to ur access policy and add it in there.

Good Luck :)

Could you please let me know in detail on how to do it.

Thanks

The first thing i'd do is go into the protocol definitions to see if there's a pre defined protocol.. if there is then simply add a new access rule.. if not then u have to determine the port it uses.. what it uses for outbound traffic.. inbound traffic.. if it needs to act as a server (that's what icq does).. then add it into protocol definitions.. after that add a new access rule with that protocol.

So where do i get all this information?.. easy.. just take a look into yahoo's help pages or do a search .. as an alternative u can use google. :)

If u still can't find the ports then go ahead and mail yahoo to ask them.

Good luck.

I have been waiting for a e-mail from yahoo.
i found the help file on it
they says that the port yahoo use is 5050
now how do i make a rule for that port?

Simple.. go into ISA management.. go into protocol definitions.. then click "create new protocol". Now put in the appropriate settings (i.e. port.. direction.. etc.) and when u're done add in a new access policy using that protocol u've just defined. Feel free to ask for clarification if u dun get what i'm saying. :)

Good Luck.
