Hi,

At first, I was having the pretty common problem of having AVI files not rendering but rather showing up totally black so I read the stuff on uninstalling the codecs that were conflicting. I saw on the clip properties that my compressor was using Xvid instead of dvsd. So I killed Xvid in the Sound and Audio Devices and searched all Xvid drivers and erased them.

Now I have a new error when I try to import an AVI into Premiere. Its "cannot open file. File uses unsupported compression format" and I just found out not even VirtualDub can handle it...the compression format evidently goes by the name of DX50 or DirectShow. Can someone help me on this? I've just installed Premiere a few hours ago and now I got this problem. Help would be much appreciated.

I gotta add something...I'm running a dual OS (don't ask me) .... its Windows 98 and Windows XP and both have Xvid on them. I just checked and Xvid keeps getting enabled on the Sound and Audio Devices in Control Panel even though the drivers are gone.
