Hi all,

I am trying to perform an external back up from an Option 61c to a local laptop.

I successfully back up the database in ld 43. However, when attempting to perform an external back up in ld 143 I enter in xbk on the command line, In return I get a prompt saying the command is not recognized. Should I be using another command on an Option 61c version 23 instead of xbk?

no the opt 61 does not like opt 11 commands, don't knowhow you hooked the laptop up to the switch but it doesn't work that way... back it up to a the a drive and if their is a reason you cab copy that to a hard drive...

My laptop is directly connected through a com port to a terminal configured tty port.

I have back up the database to the hard drive. How would I export this information (backup from hard drive) to my laptop? what would be the necessary commands to execute this?

the edd does not send streaming data to the comm, just take the floopy out of the switch and put it in your a drive, then on your laptop, start run a:.. crtl a for seclect all drag and drop in a folder.. i do make several copies of my software on teh disk in a drive but don't ahve a reason to copy it to a hard drive, you can't load it from their and it may not work in a windows os

I get an error when I pop the disk into my drive. It reads "the request could not be performed because on I/O error.

maybe a 4meg floppy... if so put in a 1.4 disk and then edd again

Thank you all for your input, I will try and advise.

If I wanted to restore a database using the back up floppy how would I do that? What commands would be useful in this process?

I apologize for the questions overload. I am use to working on a 11c and now I will also be responsible for the 61c

Thanks!!!

to do a restore, without taking the switch down, you'll need to split the processors, ld 43 edd, ld 135 scpu, ld 43 edd, ld 137 stat...make sure cpu and cmdu match .. i have processer 1 and cmdu 1 active...the flip the cpu switch on 1 to maint.. then turnoff the cni cards on zero.. connect a pc to jack 25 on the back off processor 0, press and hold the reset button flip that switch to maint, rls the button.. the main screen will say rdun disabled sue to split mode.. the pc you have on the core will show a restart, put the install disk in the slot and the cd inthe drive, you'll get a menu and be prompted for the keycode disk.. after you feed it the key codes you'll need to agree that it matches.. from the menu chose restore data base, you will be instructed to insert the backup disk into the floopy, the machine will read and display the date and time for the backup.. after you pick yes to continue, the restore will take 15 to 30 minutes, back out of the process following the prompts, let the software reboot that cpu.. at this point you have not lost dial tone... next your going to drop all calls and lose dialtone... turnoff the cni's for processor 1, turn the cni' on for processor 0 and push the ini for 0... both maint are still down.. the cni's are enabled on zero and the ini will boot you back into service... two ways to go from there, test everything...make sure that you have clean data...pri's aml's ... then repeat the process on cpu 1... or just turn on the cni's for one with the maint switches in the norn postion, the switch will sunc the data base from the active side.... that is why you need to make sure the upgradded side is up and working right...
