I am a little above a novice user, but I wouldn't say intermediate yet. I would like to know the differences in Xterm and LTSP. Aren't they both packages that you configure to connect low level pc's or thin clients to servers? I am reading on LTSP now.

Can anyone explain?

Thanks

Xterm doesn't really have any relation to LTSP. The Linux Terminal Server Project is concerned with building a network of diskless thin clients that can access a graphical user interface. Xterm, on the other hand, is simply a terminal emulator. In the context of a graphical UNIX or Linux system, the term "terminal emulator" simply refers to a graphical program that allows you to access a command line interface, roughly analogous to cmd.exe in Windows. As such, xterm is not concerned with connecting to any other computers. That's handled by other software.

term (not xterm) and minicom also allow you to do serial connections to run thin clients -- but you'd have to play with them a bit to get them to work... where as with LTSP, you have less to do to get up and running.
