Hey guys,

Does anyone know if you can upgrade to XP Pro from an upgrade of xp home?

When I upgraded, I bought Home and went from 98 to Home. But I lent my 98 disk to my brother in law (who moved away), so all I have is my xp Home upgrade disk. Will an upgrade of xp pro accept that, or do I need the full version 98 to install it?

I checked Microsoft's site, but all it said was that you can upgrade from home to pro, but not whether I need the full install disk or not.

Thanks,

Jack

don't get my word on it but it would make sense that you could upgrade from and upgrade, since it will consider your xp home as a full installation.
Otherwise you are assuming that if I had win 95 and upgraded it to win98, then i would not be able to upgrade it anymore.... wrong... you can (usually) upgrade from an upgrade unless specified otherwise.

Hmmm, that does make sense. You would think it would only need the last disc used to install an os. I just want to make sure that it won't say, "Oh, you upgraded. Well, we need the last FULL VERSION os you installed". But I think you're right, it shouldn't.

Thanks Daren,

jack

I upgraded from a lower level of windows that was factory installed on my machine and never had to pull out the old disk. Anyway, you can roll back on an installation at any time.
